Juha Hernesniemi, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Juha Hernesniemi is a world-renowned neurosurgeon and professor emeritus of neurosurgery at the Helsinki (Finland) University Hospital. He has performed more than 14,000 neurosurgery cases, more than half to treat cerebral aneurysms or brain tumors.

A pioneer of early aneurysm surgery, Dr. Hernesniemi’s clinical interests include vascular neurosurgery, skull base surgery, and brain tumors. He is credited with establishing an aneurysm database in eastern Finland.

Dr. Hernesniemi has published journal articles on cerebrovascular diseases, brain tumors, and neurosurgical techniques. In 1999 he joined the international advisory boards of two major journals, Neurosurgery and Surgical Neurology, and has been associate editor of Surgical Neurology since 2008.

Dr. Hernesniemi is a founding member of the World Academy of Neurological Surgeons and a member of the Finnish Neurological Society.
