International Students Applying for a U.S. Visa

All visa processing for degree programs on the UConn Health campus go through the International Office at UConn Health in Farmington (not the ISSS Office at Storrs).
If you have been accepted into a program and have specific questions regarding your visa, please contact Kaitlin Dornenburg or Amina Kader.

Settling In

International Office Walk-In Advising:
Walk-in advising for international students and scholars is available in the Academic Building on Thursdays from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Walker Conference Room (AG070). Walk-in advising is meant for quick questions (5-10 minutes). Examples of walk-in services include: travel advice, I-20/DS-2019 signatures, document drop-off, etc.
If you have an issue requiring an in-depth discussion, please contact the HR – International Office to make an appointment. Their office is located at 16 Munson Road, 5th floor. Please email Kaitlin Dornenburg and Amina Kader with any questions.

Housing:

Public Transportation:
Local Buses:
Local buses are run by CT Transit. Some specific links on their website that can be particularly helpful are:
– Trip Planner (interactive trip planner shows what bus(es) to take, where to catch them, and estimated time of trip)
– How to Ride (info on how to find your stop, signaling to get off, how to identify the correct bus, understanding the schedule, etc)
– Where to buy bus tickets and passes
– Purchasing and using fares on CTfastrak (includes video)

Trains and Regional Buses:
For regional and cross country travel by train or bus, you can travel out of the Hartford Terminal at 1 Union Place in downtown Hartford. For train information, check out www.amtrak.com. National/regional bus companies that run out of the Hartford terminal include Greyhound and Peter Pan.

Air Travel:
For air travel, the closes major airport is Bradley International Airport located in Windsor Locks, CT, which is about 40 minutes from the Greater Hartford area (when purchasing tickets, Bradley International (airport code BDL) will often show the city as Hartford/Springfield/Windsor Locks; this is the correct airport). Major airlines including Aer Lingus, Air Canada, American, Delta, Frontier, Jet Blue, Southwest, Spirit, and United, all fly into/out of BDL, among others.
