UConn School of Pharmacy
I was born and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut, and obtained my undergraduate degree in biology in 2017 from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. As an undergraduate, I completed a research project that studied healthcare outcomes and patient medication usage patterns in a marginalized, urban community in Costa Rica. I have also worked in retail pharmacy for three years, and have completed a volunteer year at Healthcare for the Homeless in Baltimore, Maryland, where I coordinated specialty medical referrals for patients.
I sought to join the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program because of how it aligns with my personal beliefs and professional goals. As a student and future pharmacist, my goal is to provide high-quality, holistic, and empathetic care that addresses not only my patients’ physical and mental health needs, but also acknowledges how their personal and cultural experiences factor into their overall well-being. The UST/AS Program also acknowledges the privilege we healthcare students will possess when we work in and with underserved communities. I want to work continually to ensure that this dynamic does not in any way undermine the quality of care that I will provide to each patient. As the activist Lilla Watson put it: “If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”
