William Santiago

UConn School of Medicine, Class of 2019

I was born and raised in Bridgeport, CT. I received an Associate of Arts degree from Palm Beach State College in 2009, and a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a Bachelors of Arts in Chemistry degree from Florida Atlantic University in 2015.
I co-founded a company to help first-generation college students graduate from their institutions on time. I have also advocated for the rights of homeless individuals and families in South Florida while helping them gain immediate access to shelter, food, and money.

Having seen numerous individuals struggle to navigate our current medical system, I feel it is incumbent upon me to help change that system. I want to serve communities such as those in Hartford and Bridgeport, the communities that I grew up around. The Urban Service Track best equips me for this task. The UST will help me explore the financial underpinnings of our current healthcare system and the major health disparities and barriers afflicting urban communities. It will also equip me with the skills needed to address these medical and social concerns as a professional healthcare provider.
