UConn School of Pharmacy

I was born and raised in Kenya, and I moved to the United States when I was 16 years of age. I went to New Britain High School once I moved here. I have attained a B.S. in Pharmacy Studies this May of 2018, and I am now continuing to work towards my Pharm.D.

I have worked in many locations within Walgreens Pharmacy, and I also work at the Hospital of Central Connecticut as a Pharmacy Intern. I am currently also UConn’s chapter vice president for CPNP, which stand for College of Neurologic and Psychiatric Pharmacists. This organization values patients who suffer from mental illnesses and neurologic disorders that unfortunately also affect our underserved population. Many patients who come from unfortunate backgrounds turn to substance abuse, and also suffer from many mental illnesses. The complexity of problems that this patient population encounters needs to be addressed holistically.

My perception of the role of pharmacists in primary care outpatient setting is that the care should predominantly revolve around the patient. The patient is the critical point of care, and their healthcare concerns need to be addressed in the most appropriate and ethical manner. My goals for the patients would be to optimize their clinical health outcomes by also considering their financial restraints, and advocate for my patients. I sought involvement in this UST opportunity with the goals of gaining invaluable experience with the underserved population, and to collaboratively work with other healthcare professional students.
