Taylor Roy
UConn School of Nursing
I was born in Connecticut and have lived my whole life in New London County. I graduated as salutatorian from Waterford High School in 2022, and I am currently an honors student in the Bachelor of Science in nursing program at the University of Connecticut.
My volunteer experience includes working at a community meal center and a food pantry in New London County. I have also volunteered at Backus Hospital as part of the Junior Volunteer Bridge Program, and last year in the emergency department at Windham Hospital. An ongoing service project close to my heart is Treatment Tiara Day for Warrior Princesses, a project created by my sisters and me during the pandemic. Its mission is to create tiaras and donate them to women, children, and others with medical challenges to boost self-care and confidence when dealing with medical providers, on treatment days, and when feeling poorly. We have donated more than 200 tiaras, including 50 to the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven.
I sought involvement in UST/AS because my dream is to work as a nurse practitioner in a community-based clinic dedicated to supporting underserved, low-income, and vulnerable populations in New London County. I will provide patient-centered, holistic care to patients, families, and the community, increasing preventative care and overall access to care. Being a part of UST will help me further refine my abilities to serve and care for urban populations in a healthcare setting.
