Sravya Bahudodda
UConn School of Medicine
I was born in Downers Grove, IL, and spent my early years with my grandparents in a rural town in India before moving to Farmington, CT. I graduated with my master’s degree in public health from Columbia University in May 2024.
My volunteer experiences have reinforced my commitment to caring for vulnerable patient populations. I have been involved with the geriatric population through the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP), the Brookline Senior Center, and the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter, where I participated in advocacy work and assisted patients with their health-adjacent social needs. During college, I also volunteered at the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter, where I supported individuals experiencing homelessness. During my junior year of college, I was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Davis Projects for Peace Foundation to lead a menstrual health initiative for refugees in Uganda’s Nakivale Refugee Settlement.
My volunteer experiences have enabled me to understand that life circumstances deeply interact with a person’s health. I have learned that healthcare extends beyond medical treatment; it involves understanding and addressing the complexities of patients’ lives. I hope that UST/AS will provide me with the practical experience and clinical skills to treat patients within the broader context of their lives. Equipped with these skills, I hope to advocate for vulnerable patient populations more effectively as a future physician, leading to improved patient outcomes.
