Sophia DeNucci
UConn School of Nursing
I am from Newton, Massachusetts. I am working towards my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at UConn, from which I will graduate in 2021.
I have volunteered at Newton Wellesley Hospital in the adult GI post-op unit, and for the Child Life Team at Franciscan Children’s. I have also gone on mission trips for volunteer work in Fiji, Peru, and in many towns in the Northeast of the United States. Currently, I work as an emergency medical technician for the Boston Red Sox, and am the president and founder of the Foundation of International Medical Relief for Children, UConn chapter.
I sought to become an Urban Service Scholar due to my commitment to service and volunteering; in fact, my passion for helping others is what drove me to choose a career in nursing in the first place. I want to be able to make a difference, and I believe that through the UST/AS Program I can learn how to make significant changes in the healthcare of communities, particularly in those communities facing significant social obstacles to health equity.
