Simon Ebbott
Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant Program
I was born and raised in Brookline, Massachusetts. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in international relations with a focus in economics from The College of Wooster in Ohio.
For the last two and half years, I have worked with the LGBTQ+ community at a Federally Qualified Health Center in Chicago, Illinois. During this time, I also volunteered in several ways with individuals experiencing housing instability and homelessness. For example, I volunteered at a free foot care clinic, providing hands-on help and care to anyone that needed it. I also volunteered with a health outreach bus that every night traveled to those areas of Chicago in greatest need in order to distribute basic goods and offer medical services and case management.
As an Urban Service Scholar, I will be able to further my education and develop into a provider focused on working with underserved populations and communities. I will strengthen not only my clinical skills, but also the interpersonal and interdisciplinary dexterity that is of vital importance to best serve all patients, especially those that are in the greatest need. In my work with the LGBTQ+ community, I was able to work with a diverse range of caregivers, from behavioral health consultants to social workers to primary care providers. This experience has given me a keen awareness of the supremacy of healthcare teams and how often support and solutions come from collaboration and communication, an ethos shared by the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program.
