Sarah Fuller

UConn School of Medicine

I was born in Minnesota and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut. I attended the University of Connecticut and majored in Spanish and physiology & neurobiology.

As an undergraduate student, I was involved in Global Medical Brigades: I participated in mission trips to Panama and Nicaragua, and served as medical coordinator for a number of other trips. After graduation, I worked as a medical scribe in New York City, where I witnessed how social determinants of health impacted the lives of the patients coming into the Emergency Department. For my post-baccalaureate, I participated in the Migrant Farm Workers clinic as vitals lead and Spanish translator. For the past year, I have worked at the National Institute of Health’s Pediatric Oncology Branch studying patients with rare tumors and cancers.

My desire to help underserved communities began at a young age, when my family would take me along on medical mission trips, and the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program provides an opportunity to build off these early experiences. It also provides the opportunity to join an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals in bettering our community by uplifting those members hurt by social determinants of health. I look forward to participating in this mission, and to learning from my fellow healthcare students and professionals.
