Sarah Feltz
UConn School of Dental Medicine
I was born in Changsha, China, but at seven months old I was adopted and raised in Southington, Connecticut. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Syracuse University in 2016 and my Master of Health Science from Quinnipiac University in 2018.
My initial experiences working with urban underserved populations came through my church’s youth ministry and the annual summer mission trips it organized. On these trips, I assisted my host communities with various projects while working with children, elderly people, and adults with special needs. Beginning in 2015, I have volunteered at a few Connecticut Mission of Mercy Dental Clinics. Professionally, I have worked in administration at a large group dental practice in Connecticut, where I improved my ability to communicate with patients and learned practical management techniques.
I sought involvement with the Urban Service Track due to my desire to both work in health care and serve my home community. I believe that the UST’s mix of traditional education with practical community engagement will make me an empathetic and technically-competent health care professional. Through the UST, I will be able to channel my interpersonal and learning capabilities into training that will allow me to better serve my future patients in the clinic, and to advocate for improvements to the overall state of health care.
