Sagune Sakya
UConn School of Pharmacy, Class of 2017
I grew up in East Lyme, CT. I am currently a pharmacy technician at Middlesex Hospital.
I have always had a desire to work in the healthcare field to help others. I decided to pursue pharmacy because I think that it is rewarding to help patients become healthy by optimizing their medications and through education.
As a pharmacy student, I have been learning about many different diseases, drugs, and pharmacology. Through Urban Service Track, I am able to put into practice what I have learned in class to actually help people. I am excited to have the opportunity to bring health education to urban underserved populations that could have a lasting impact. Through this track, I hope to learn how to deliver culturally competent care to different underserved populations and how to reduce barriers to healthcare. I also would like to learn how to be an effective member of an interprofessional team so that I am able to collaborate with other health professionals in the future. As a pharmacist, I hope to be able to use the skills that I learn through Urban Service Track to provide the best quality healthcare possible and advocate for changes that would help to bring healthcare to underserved populations.
