UConn School of Medicine
I was born and raised in Connecticut. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in biomedical engineering with a dual minor in molecular cell biology and material science engineering from the University of Connecticut in 2020.
I began volunteering at Hartford Hospital in high school, serving in several departments including the Ambulatory Surgery, Outpatient Clinic and Dialysis Center. In college, I was part of Honors Across State Borders, a student-run volunteer organization that raises awareness about social justice issues and hosts service trips to underprivileged communities in different states. In 2019, I travelled to Burke County, North Carolina to help build affordable housing. I was also a liaison and driver for the SOS Food Recovery program at UConn, where I helped fight food insecurity by recovering food in my college community and donating the surplus to the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic. During my gap year, I worked full-time as a patient care associate in a cardiothoracic surgical ICU at Hartford Hospital as part of a multidisciplinary team assisting providers with the health, safety and comfort needs of patients.
I applied to the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program because I strongly believe that everyone should have equal access to healthcare and I am passionate about improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations. I believe the UST/AS Program curriculum will give me early clinical exposure to treating vulnerable populations, which will inform my leadership as a physician. Participating in the UST/AS Program will also allow me to tackle the unique challenges of the medically underserved as part of an interprofessional team focused on patient-centered care.
