Neal Krishna
UConn School of Medicine
Neal Krishna was born and raised in the Greater Boston area and attended the University of Connecticut, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in physiology and neurobiology and a Bachelor of Arts in English.
Neal has extensive experience volunteering at homes for the elderly, teaching, and mentoring underserved youth. He enjoys studying Spanish and Mandarin Chinese and hopes to become fluent so that he can better serve diverse populations in medical settings. He is particularly passionate about improving effective communication in healthcare.
Neal was a 2023 Fulbright Scholar, where he taught elementary school and reinforced his love for providing education. He sought involvement in the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program (UST/AS) due to his experiences witnessing Massachusetts’ opioid crisis and because of his early involvement with volunteering with the elderly and providing music therapy. He is dedicated to studying community health, improving physician-patient communication, and increasing access to understandable healthcare. Neal is interested in the intersection between medicine and the humanities and how reflection through narrative can enrich medical education and patient care. He aims to integrate patient-centered principles learned through UST/AS into his practice as a community-based physician. He hopes to eventually contribute to advancing humanistic medical treatment and interdisciplinary education across the United States.
