Nadine Schmitt
UConn School of Nursing
I was born in Syracuse NY, and raised in Avon CT. I am CPR certified, lifeguard certified, and I’m working towards obtaining my EMT license.
In the past, I volunteered in an infusion center, which enabled me to work with a variety of patients in a hospital setting. Additionally, I volunteered at a summer camp, working with children from kindergarten through eighth grade, where I helped run arts and crafts activities. This was a fulfilling experience that piqued my interest in working with children.
I sought out the UST because I wanted to engage directly with communities that need help. This program presents a different opportunity than going through clinicals and working with patients in hospitals. I am passionate about the importance of preventative care and how it can reduce health disparities within populations. In addition, I wanted to work with other medical professionals to help further develop teamwork skills, which will make me a better nurse, more attuned to patients’ needs.
