Miryam Wilson
UConn School of Medicine, Class of 2019
I was born in Danbury, CT and raised in Sandy Hook, CT. I graduated with honors from the University of Connecticut, Storrs with a Bachelor’s of Science in Physiology and Neurobiology. As an undergraduate at UConn, I volunteered with the UConn Health Center’s Migrant Farm Workers Clinic providing basic medical care to workers who would otherwise be without access to affordable clinics. I have also shadowed physicians around Connecticut who work with the state’s underserved urban communities.
I seek involvement in the Urban Service Track in order to serve the most vulnerable and marginalized groups in my community and my state. I hope that the UST will bring me into contact with those who have experience working on and fighting for local human rights and humanitarian aid, both those focused on building personal relationships with communities and those seeking structural reform of the healthcare system. Ultimately, it is my goal to improve the coordination and quality of healthcare that people in Connecticut’s underserved communities receive, especially those in the Greater Hartford and Greater Bridgeport areas.
