Michelle Chin
UConn School of Medicine
I was born and raised on Long Island, NY. I lived there until my recent move to Connecticut. Previously, I obtained my bachelor’s degree in economics and history at Queens College, part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. I returned to my alma mater to complete my medical school prerequisites.
I have worked in different fields prior to attending UConn, including more than seven years in the restaurant industry and four years in a teaching capacity. I was a medical scribe for New York
Presbyterian Hospital and then worked as a case manager in the outpatient rehab setting. Additionally, I worked as a research assistant, studying resident relationships and emotional wellbeing in long-term care facilities. Outside of work, I volunteered as a team leader with New York Cares, promoting adult education, hippotherapy, college readiness, and food pantry programs.
I sought to join the UST because I aspire to be a physician who can advocate for and serve communities that have been historically neglected by the healthcare system. As someone who faced significant financial hardships in obtaining care and education, I was deeply grateful to have a primary care provider (PCP) who could work with understanding of my individual challenges. I hope to have a similar impact on patients, helping them to make informed health decisions in spite of socioeconomic limitations. Furthermore, I hope to address certain cultural barriers in Asian-American communities, particularly the stigma against sexual and reproductive healthcare.
