UConn School of Nursing Class of 2014

I was born and raised in the UConn area and am currently an undergraduate at the University.  Working with UST has given me so much experience with underprivileged populations and has made me want this as my career that much more. My past experience has been working with Koru Care which is an organization that allows children from New Zealand who have terminal illnesses and disabilities to be able to experience America. I’ve also worked and volunteered at Camp Horizons, which is a camp for people of all ages with developmental disabilities. I have also studied abroad in South Africa and have worked very closely with impoverished communities. I am volunteering at Red Cross Children’s Hospital and will later be volunteering at Themba Care. I chose UST because I feel that every person, no matter their race, socioeconomic status, religion, ability level and everything else that separates us, should stop them from receiving health care. And I am striving to help these people get help and teach them at the same time. By working with UST I can further my knowledge of these communities and get to know the populations that I, one day, would like to provide nursing care to. Working with underserved communities just feels right for me and will make my practicing that much better. I also enjoy being able to work in a team with other health professionals to see health care as a whole.
