Maschal Mohiuddin

UConn School of Medicine, Class of 2019

My name is Maschal Mohiuddin and I am a first year student at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Class of 2019.

I was born in Pakistan and immigrated to the United States at five years of age. I have lived in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio, and Connecticut during the past 17 years. I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Biology and Journalism.

During my time as an undergraduate at the University of Connecticut, I served as a volunteer, program director, resident assistant, and student coordinator at the Office of Community Outreach. I organized and participated in service opportunities such as alternative breaks, shelter serves, and semester-long volunteering programs.

I applied to be a part of the Urban Service Track in order to continue providing health care to underserved populations throughout medical school, and to work with a team of healthcare professionals from a variety of disciplines. I believe the team-based approach to medical care the UST stresses allows for a more personalized approach to health care for individual patients, one which covers all of a patient’s needs. I hope my time with the UST allows me to improve as a health care professional, one who understands the unique challenges faced by underserved communities and who can administer care appropriately.
