Lindsey Schultz
Quinnipiac Physician Assistant Program, Class of 2017
I am originally from Utah. Except for a brief stint in Seattle, Washington, I have lived there all my life. I attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Community Health Education in 2009.
I completed an internship in Patient Navigation at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah where I guided newly-diagnosed Spanish-speaking cancer patients through the various aspects of their care. I enjoyed being able to use my second language to benefit a vulnerable population. After I completed the internship I went to work for a local Head Start agency as a Health Specialist. My job there was to conduct health screenings on the children in the program, who were economically or otherwise disadvantaged. About half of my caseload of 200 were Latino, and I especially loved working with the children who were learning English as a second language. I also enjoyed working with the parents of children who didn’t have primary care providers to find sources of care or insurance.
I am excited for the opportunity to be involved in the UST program. My previous experiences have provided me with a unique perspective on many of the issues facing underserved populations seeking healthcare today. I look forward to collaborating with fellow UST scholars to find ways to better meet the needs of this population.
