Kylie Harrington
UConn School of Social Work
I was born and raised in New Britain, Connecticut. I obtained dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Management and Science, Technology and Society Studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2015.
As an undergraduate, I volunteered with Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood, serving the population of Albany. After graduating, I pursued my passion for service by volunteering with the Crisis Text Line, a text-message-based support service for individuals going through crises. This opportunity brought me into contact with individuals from a number of different populations facing a wide array of difficulties. In my professional life, I have worked in a variety of fields, with a variety of age groups and demographics, and in a variety of locations all over Hartford County, in towns such as West Hartford, East Hartford, Southington, and Farmington.
I sought out the Urban Services Track due to my passion for working with underserved groups and my intention to work in clinical settings with sexual assault victims after graduation. My goal is to serve both general urban populations, and the underserved populations subsumed within these populations, such as deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, women, and members of the LGBT+ people. I am excited to learn as much as I can from the UST and to grow as an individual, student, and social worker alongside my cohort.
