Kyle Keegan
UConn School of Medicine
I was born in Boston and grew up in Medfield, MA. As an undergraduate, I went to the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology, with a minor in biochemistry and molecular biology, on the pre-med track. My final thesis focused on understanding Massachusetts residents’ perceptions and usage of hospital emergency departments and urgent care centers. I gained insight into the effects of health disparities and the implications of improving health equity, as the intersectionality of health and socioeconomic status affected each decision made by the individuals I studied.
After graduating, I worked as an emergency department technician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, with the opportunity to serve various populations, both urban and suburban. Without a doubt, those three years were transformative and further inspired my pursuits in medicine. The providers and patients helped me grow, not only as an individual, but as the medical student I intend to be.
Being part of UST/AS will provide the opportunity to continue serving urban communities and vulnerable populations while working with an interdisciplinary team. I plan to bring my clinical, service, and research experiences with me to this program. I am grateful to have provided for those in need of greater support systems and look forward to continuing my work in this field beside providers and diverse populations who will support me in improving the lives of others.
