UConn School of Nursing Class of 2014

I was raised in Wallingford, Conn., where my Chinese-Vietnamese immigrant parents decided to settle down. I am currently working toward my B.S. in nursing. While in school, I’ve been a Collegiate Health Service Corps Volunteer, Infirmary Assistant at Camp Horizons, a camp for children and adults of all ages with developmental disabilities, and vice president and past secretary and member of the Vietnamese Student Association. I sought involvement in UST because I, as a minority, believe that there are many things to be done for the underserved populations in my community in regards to their health care. Growing up in a predominantly white town raised by immigrant parents who had little schooling gave me a different outlook on health care.  My experience working with diverse populations and my upbringing leads me to strongly believe that education and more resources are some of the things that fortunate people like myself can help provide to help remedy the health care situation. I hope UST helps me to learn about the populations I hope to work with some day, helps me network with other health professionals with the same goals, and shows me new ways to tackle the health care problem in the United States.
