Karell Cotterell
School of Pharmacy
I was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. There, I graduated from the University of Technology, Jamaica obtaining my bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy.
In elementary school, I was a part of a club called Kiwanis Builders Clubs. This club, by facilitating student-led community service projects, birthed my passion of service for others. Since then, I have sought many ways to volunteer and be of service to others and my community. Most of my volunteering experiences have been with children, providing homework assistance or senior citizens offering companionship.
Similarly, I sought to be an Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholar because the program gives me the opportunity to work with other like-minded healthcare professionals, who desire to be of service to the community. Volunteering as well as my own experiences have allowed me to see and know some of the disparities and challenges that many community members from marginalized and underserved communities face. Urban Service Track/ AHEC Scholar curriculum will equip me with resources to better serve and advocate for underserved communities and improve pharmacy services as we work towards improving the state of healthcare. I look forward to learning and becoming a better healthcare provider through the Urban Service Track/AHEC program.
