Jeremy Doucette
UConn School of Medicine
I grew up in Milford, Connecticut, a suburban city between Bridgeport and New Haven. For college at UConn, I moved to Storrs, Connecticut. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in biological science as an Honors Scholar with minors in molecular andcellular biology and chemistry, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish.
I have extensive experience volunteering and working with underserved populations. I have studied abroad in South America, where I honed my Spanish-speaking abilities and immersed myself in Latin American cultures. I have volunteered as a Recovery Coach with the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery in Willimantic, where I provided support to individuals with substance use disorder. Finally, I have volunteered with Leeway in New Haven, where I assisted in developing their Community Living Model, a program designed to improve the ability of individuals with multiple chronic illnesses to take care of themselves in their homes.
I am applying to the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program because its focus on addressing the needs of underserved populations accord with my motivation for attending medical school. The program represents a great opportunity to learn about those aspects of urban healthcare that specifically address the health needs of marginalized groups. Work with underserved populations during my tenure as a medical student will catalyze my education with focus and purpose and help give rise to a mindset capable of reforming our healthcare system into one all Americans can access and utilize.
