Jane Conway
UConn School of Dental Medicine
I was born and raised in Norwich, Connecticut. I graduated from Cornell University in 2016 with a degree in human biology, health, and society and with minors in global health and gerontology.
During my undergraduate, I was involved in both a research study on the achievement gap between low- and middle-income infants and a longitudinal study that examined the long-term effects of poverty. The participants in these studies gave a human face to what I was learning in class about health disparities and social determinants of health, and working with them furthered my desire to work with underserved populations.
After graduating, I worked as a pediatric dental assistant in Vienna, Virginia. Many of my patients received Medicaid and did not speak English as a first language. I saw firsthand the complex medical conditions of my patients, complexities that I came to believe could only be resolved through an interdisciplinary approach to dental medicine.
I want to join the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program to improve my ability to work not just with dental professionals, but with all medical professionals in order to best serve those in need.
