UConn School of Medicine

I was born and raised in Queens, New York before moving to Connecticut as a teenager. I originally planned to pursue a career in law, but upon graduating from Fordham University in 2012, I decided to pursue a different path, eventually transitioning to medicine. I remained in The Bronx, and enrolled in Bronx Community College while working two, sometimes three, jobs to afford tuition while completing my post-baccalaureate work.

Since switching career paths, I have worked extensively on community health outreach. As a member and coordinator of the Bronx Community Health Leaders, I worked with a team of fifty volunteers to provide an array of health outreach programs to a federally-qualified health center treating 15,000 patients. I have also contributed to public health research in urban emergency departments through my work on the Implementation Study underway by the National Alliance of Research Associates Programs (NARAP).

I sought involvement in the Urban Service Track because I believe in the axiom that all will need healing, but few will serve to heal. If a health care team member wants to practice healing, then that team member must extend the reach of his treatment beyond the immediate patient, to that patients’ family and community. I hope to combine my Urban Service Track experience into an MD/MPH with a focus on health care policy and efficient, equitable delivery of health care.
