Hayley Merrill
Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant Program
Hayley Merrill, Quinnipiac University, PA Class of 2023
I was born and raised in Bethlehem, New York where I spent most of my young adult life. I have bachelor’s degree in health sciences from Quinnipiac University.
I have spent time at school and at home participating in volunteer events, including organizing food drives, helping those who are in the process of finding permanent housing, and going into the community to help various organizations. I also helped start an anti-racism book club in my undergraduate program and a club called Representation Matters, where I was able to highlight disparities in many professions. I have worked as a patient care associate (PCA) in Albany, New York, where I helped care for numerous patients on an orthopedic and spine floor. As a PCA, I was able to help individuals with their daily activities and to provide them with social support.
I want to join the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program in order to improve as a person and a provider. I know this program will help me learn about people with different life circumstances and how as a provider, I can personalize their care in the most beneficial way possible. I want to further educate myself in order to provide the best care possible for those who do not have the best access to or the easiest time with the current health care system.
