Hannah Martin
UConn School of Social Work
Hi! My name is Hannah Martin, and I am a graduate student at the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. I was born and raised in a rural town in Connecticut. In May 2023, I graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the University of Rhode Island.
During the 2021–2023 academic years, I had the opportunity to intern with a social services agency called Perspectives Corporations in North Kingstown, RI. As a behavioral specialist, I provide done-on-one home-based therapeutic services to clients. Using applied behavioral analysis, I worked to help my clients become integrated members of society. Throughout my undergraduate college career, I became involved with volunteer and community service experiences that helped me develop my passion to help others. In the spring of 2021, I organized a sanitary and toiletry donation drive for the Women’s Resource Center in Newport, RI. After seeing the extensive need following the COVID-19pandemic, I worked with my person campus to collect donations that we were able to drop off at the resource center. The center donated the supplies to underserved populations in surrounding communities. Additionally, through my membership with the Phi Sigma Sigma national sorority, I helped sponsor children to enable them to attend school. My chapter partnered with an elementary school system in Tanzania. Throughout each academic year, we raised money to donate to children who were notable to attend school. In addition, we donated school supplies to help children engage in their learning. Through our sponsorship and donations, we were able to help multiple children in underserved populations gain an education.
I want to become involved with the Urban Service Track program to be able to advocate for urban underserved populations and learn more about the healthcare challenges and issues that they face. Through UST, I will gain the exposure and knowledge that will allow me to make a difference in the field of social work and in healthcare overall. I am eager to grow through the Urban Service Track program and attain the exposure that will help me to assist a multitude of clients in my professional future.
