Gabriella Rubino
UConn School of Nursing, Class of 2017
I was born in Hartford, CT and grew up in Ellington, CT. I am a junior at UConn working on my Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing.
I have volunteered all my life, beginning when I was in Girl Scouts. During my junior and senior years in high school I volunteered at Ellington Senior Center, which sparked my interest in geriatric and community populations. My freshman year of college I went on an alternative break with St. Thomas Aquinas Church to a rural underserved area of Kentucky to participate in home rebuilding and remodeling. Currently, I work as a Resident Assistant at UConn, serving as a mentor, role model, and resource for students who live on campus.
I sought involvement in UST because of how it gives back to its community by utilizing the skills and knowledge of many different but related disciplines of healthcare. In order to provide the best care possible, it is important for a medical practitioner to realize what other areas of healthcare have to offer the patient. UST will give me a solid foundation of experience and education on which I can build my future career and make a general difference in healthcare for the underserved. UST’s philosophy has an important focus on preventative care, which I think is key in providing meaningful overall care. I am excited to connect with and give back to a community that will benefit greatly from the healthcare and education I and my fellow medical professionals can provide.
