Fabio Saccomanno
UConn School of Medicine
Fabio was born and raised in New Fairfield, CT, and graduated from New Fairfield High School. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Connecticut, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in molecular and cell biology, with a minor in French.
Before starting medical school, Fabio volunteered in his hometown as a vaccinator at the New Fairfield/Sherman COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic, interned as a research assistant at Hartford Hospital, and worked for several years as an emergency department technician at Stamford Hospital. While at Stamford Hospital, he was a member of the Bioethics Committee, where he collaboratively evaluated ethical questions and concerns raised by hospital staff and community members. Fabio also dedicated considerable time to improving the care of pediatric behavioral health patients; his work with the Stamford Hospital Foundation resulted in significant upgrades to the activities available for pediatric behavioral health patients in the emergency department (E.D.).
Fabio was drawn to the Urban Service Track because of its interdisciplinary nature; having worked in the E.D., he appreciates how an effective healthcare team involves many different professionals, and he values working collaboratively with other experts toward a common goal. Fabio believes his work with the Urban Service Track will shape him as a physician, giving him a better understanding of the healthcare system and its effects on society’s most vulnerable patients.
