Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant Program

I was born and raised in Spokane, Washington, where I also attended college at Whitworth University. There, I double majored in health science and Spanish and minored in Latin American studies.

I have spent a total of six months volunteering in local medical clinics in Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras, and have also travelled on a week-long volunteer experience in Puerto Rico. In these locales, I ran lab tests, drew blood, assisted dentists, performed EKGs and ultrasounds, and worked as a translator. Before applying to physical assistant school, I worked as a certified nurse assistant and as a medical assistant. As a medical assistant, I worked alongside my supervising physician to build a clinic from the ground up: I was responsible for all of the clinical tasks and for learning every aspect of the administrative side of healthcare.

I applied to the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program because of its admirable combination of medical training and service work, which I believe must go hand-in-hand. As a physician assistant, I hope not only to treat physical ailments, but also to build relationships with my patients and advocate for their health. I believe that being a part of the UST/AS Program will enable me to better care for the underserved and to learn more about the disparities that many groups of people face. I am confident the UST/AS Program will make me a better, more holistic healthcare provider
