I was born in Cuenca, Ecuador, and immigrated with my parents to the United States at four years old. I was raised in the town of Bristol, Connecticut. I have an Associate degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) at Tunxis Community College in Farmington, Connecticut.
Growing up surrounded by poverty and financial instability, I witnessed the day-to-day struggles that underserved populations face; I have also worked in physically demanding jobs alongside people from underserved populations. Many of the underserved individuals I grew up and worked with lacked access to healthcare and healthcare education. This experience inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare, in order to dedicate my life to the care and education of people who are in need.
I sought involvement in Urban Service Track because I believe the program will help me improve as an aspiring healthcare professional. I expect that the Urban Service Track will help me make a difference by exposing me to professional teachers and real-world experiences aimed at improving the lives of underserved urban populations.
