Caroline Summa

UConn School of Nursing

I was born in Boston, Massachusetts and lived there until my family and I moved to Farmington, Connecticut, where I spent most of my childhood. I am currently working towards my Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

While a student, I volunteered as a tutor for underserved students in first through fourth grade in Hartford County schools to help promote reading and learning habits. At the University of Saint Joseph, I helped facilitate an event called The Community Action Poverty Simulation at the University, which taught participants about differences in lifestyle and discrepancies in access to healthcare between members of underserved populations and those outside such populations.

I sought involvement in the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program in order to further explore my passion for community service and equitable care; I hope to gain the experience necessary to better understand the obstacles many people face when trying to get the care they need. Through learning and developing in a collaborative environment like the UST/AS Program, I hope to contribute to social movements and societal change around healthcare in Connecticut and the United States more broadly.
