Briana Serio
UConn School of Nursing, Class of 2017
I was born and raised in Simsbury, Connecticut, and I am currently in the progress of obtaining a Degree in Nursing at the University of Connecticut.
During my most recent winter break at UConn I volunteered at McLean, a nursing home in Simsbury. I worked on the Memory Care floor and helped the residents organize and enact art projects, games, parties, and other activities. I have also been working at a daycare taking care of 3-month-old infants for the past 3 years.
I was born and raised in a suburban community in Connecticut, so I am not as experienced as I would like to be at working in communities where many people do not receive proper healthcare. Participating in UST is an opportunity for me to gain that experience, and give back to those who are in need of help, both during and after the program. I have always believed that receiving healthcare is a human right, and this program advocates that right for many people lacking proper healthcare, something I hope to do during my future nursing career.
