Bianca Rigg

UConn School of Nursing

Bianca Rigg was born and raised in Allendale, NJ. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at the University of Connecticut.

In her senior year of high school, Rigg was an intern at Endocrine Associates of Rockland in New York, where she completed patient COVID check-ins, measured vitals, booked appointments, and assisted patients in the exam room. She also worked with an organization called Doutores Das Águas to spread awareness about the medical assistance they provide to communities along the Amazon River. Rigg raised over $1,500 to guarantee the 2021 medical boat passage. In her past two years at college, she participated in the Community Outreach Program’s Alternative Break service-learning trips to Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, the latter as a team leader in her sophomore year.

Rigg sought involvement in the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program to expand her knowledge of healthcare disparities and advocate for underserved communities. An aspiration of hers is to become a nurse practitioner and work with a nonprofit organization to aid communities with limited healthcare assistance. She hopes to gain experience advocating for healthcare rights, developing clinical skills, and working directly with underserved populations. This experience would teach her positive provider-patient interactions and how to best support her future patients.
