Bari Peyser
Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant Program
I grew up in Old Bridge, New Jersey, about thirty miles outside of Manhattan. I received my degrees in finance and global and international studies (GLIS) with a minor in Spanish from Penn State. After graduating, I worked in financial services; five years later, I was unfulfilled and wanted to more tangibly help others. I decided that I wanted to work in a medical field, and found Physician’s Assistant to be the most attractive option.
I worked as a volunteer EMT, caring for patients and providing pre-hospital care, and as a patient care volunteer at a hospital, providing comfort and compassion to patients on a general nursing floor and in the NICU. I also traveled to Costa Rica on a volunteer medical mission trip, where I worked in a clinic and provided medical care to those lacking access to it.
I am passionate about helping others, giving back to the community, and volunteering, and I’d like to continue doing so both as a trainee and as a full-fledged PA. The Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars program will give me the knowledge and the skills I need to realize my dream of providing top-class healthcare to underserved communities, where such healthcare is traditionally inaccessible or unaffordable. Supplemented by my diverse background experiences, drive for change, and desire for continuous improvement, my experience with the UST/AS Program will provide me with the tools I need to make a difference in the PA profession and in healthcare in general.
