Ardian Latifi

UConn School of Medicine, Class of 2019

I was born in Waterbury, CT and raised in a small suburb outside of the city. I attended The Johns Hopkins University and received bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry, Biology, and Spanish.

During my time in Baltimore, I volunteered at the Baltimore Rescue Mission Clinic. Working alongside doctors and other students, I helped diagnose and treat the underserved of the local community. At the same time, I learned about the hardships and social problems that these patients faced every day. One of my career goals is to work directly with such urban population to help overcome many of the social and medical obstacles they face. I am especially interested in using my Spanish language skills to help the large Hispanic populations both here in Connecticut and abroad. Eventually, I hope to use the training I receive at UConn to improve the lives of underserved communities in Latin America. I am confident my experiences in the Urban Service Track will broaden my perspective on urban communities, develop my understanding of public health issues, and foster my passion for aiding the underserved. The education I receive from the UST will be invaluable in tackling the obstacles and challenges I and the communities I work in will face in improving access to medicine worldwide.
