Anthony Messina
Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant Program
I was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and received a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Worcester State University. I spent three years working as a firefighter and EMT at Sturbridge Fire Department and have participated in service trips to the Dominican Republic and El Salvador. My time in healthcare has led me to believe that there must be more connections between medicine and public health, and that there should be a strong public focus on preventative medicine.
I sought involvement in the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program to acquire skills and experience necessary to help improve health in underdeveloped areas. I believe that by providing communities with more health opportunities, especially health education, community members will be able to improve their own health outcomes. I first began pursuing a career in healthcare after a transformative mission trip, and I have never lost the desire to help developing countries. Through involvement in the UST/AS Program, I will become a more effective asset to such communities and to such countries.
