Ann Marie Abadeer
Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant Program, Class of 2019
I was born in Staten Island, NY, and grew up in the suburbs of New Jersey, just 25 minutes outside of New York City. I completed my undergraduate degree as a Health Sciences/Pre-PA major with a Global Public Health minor, and graduated summa cum laude from Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor of Science.
While completing my bachelor’s degree at Quinnipiac, I was a freshman resident assistant for three years, where I guided and advised first-year students during their transitions to college life and education. I also volunteered as an EMT and worked as a medical assistant aid and physical therapy aide. In order to better understand health care systems across the globe, I joined service learning trips to rural and urban areas of Ethiopia, Bolivia, Uganda, and Egypt.
Through the Urban Service Track, I hope to supplement my medical and clinical knowledge with a more social understanding of underserved populations. UST will provide me the exposure, education, and leadership skills that I need to begin my career in primary care and patient advocacy. The aesthetic appeal of medicine comes from the beneficial relationship between the patient and the provider, and primary care in urban underserved settings epitomizes this appeal; it is the best application of holistic medicine. I hope to use primary care as a forum to help people navigate systematic barriers to their educational, occupational, and psychosocial development.
