Amy Eklund
UConn School of Dental Medicine Class of 2016
I am originally from Long Island, New York, but my family relocated to Falmouth, Maine when I was in high school. I am a 2011 graduate of Colby College where I received my B.A. in Biology. I am excited to be a part of the Urban Service Track, because it is my lifelong goal to serve others. After college I spent a year working as a development associate for the nonprofit organization Wildlife Conservation Society. I have always been committed to community service in relationship to caring for underserved populations. In high school I volunteered in a school in Guatemala through the organization Safe Passage, and in college I sat on the board of and mentored through Colby Cares About Kids, an organization that provided mentoring services for children in the Central Maine area. In college I developed a love for public health, which led me to volunteer and shadow in a public dental clinic that provides oral and dental care for people living in rural Maine. I look forward to growing my education and awareness of working with underserved populations, especially among other healthcare providers also committed to such work.
