Ami Shah
UConn School of Pharmacy
I was born in Pleasanton, California, and grew up in nearby San Ramon. I lived in California until moving to Connecticut for college. I am working towards my undergraduate degree in pharmaceutical sciences, and will pursue a Pharm.D after graduating.
While in college, I have worked at both CVS Pharmacy and Yale New Haven Hospital as a pharmacy intern. At Yale New Haven Hospital, I got the chance to work in the oncology and the Investigational Drug Services pharmacies. My experience in both departments allowed me to broaden my skill set and to learn about the wide variety of roles clinical pharmacists take on.
I wanted to get involved in the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program because I believe interprofessional care is important. I believe the UST/AS Program will permit me to learn about other healthcare fields and to build interprofessional connections that ensure my future patients will receive the best care possible. I will also have the chance to work directly with underserved communities and give back to them. Frequently, higher education programs do not give their cohorts time to help others and give back; the UST/AS Program, however, will give me the space and opportunity both to learn my profession and to apply that knowledge in public service.
