Amanda Idusuyi
UConn School of Pharmacy
I am from Lynn, Massachusetts and am working to obtain my doctorate in pharmacy.
As a student at the University of Connecticut, I joined the Collegiate Health Service Corps, which offers lessons on health and wellness to various underserved populations. Three of my sisters and I also started an organization called Sisters in Medicine, a healthcare service organization geared at spreading healthcare and wellness knowledge through various social media platforms. Recently, I travelled to Ghana with Global Brigades, which gave me the opportunity to address global health and economic disparities as well as public health concerns by hosting free clinics with doctors and nurses and building sanitary latrines. I have also worked as a pharmacy intern at Stop and Shop Pharmacy.
I joined the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program so it could guide me through my studies by exposing me to real life patient cases and interprofessional teams, and enhancing my critical thinking skills. The UST/AS Program will increase my ability to spread health awareness and help me realize my passion for optimizing drug outcomes and promoting excellent pharmacy practice. The skills I learn and build through the UST/AS Program, along with my drive to help others, will make me a well-rounded trainee and professional pharmacist. As healthcare slowly and worryingly becoming “healthbusiness,” I want to advocate for individuals who cannot serve themselves and to provide them with the best care possible.
