Adam Mastrocola
UConn School of Medicine, Class of 2019
I was born in New Britain, CT and spent the majority of my childhood in Canton, CT. After graduating from high school, I attended the University of Connecticut and received a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology with a minor in Psychology. I have spent several years as a scientist and earned a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Connecticut.
My passion for medicine and providing care for the underserved was ignited while volunteering at an HIV/AIDS clinic in South Africa as an undergraduate student. I witnessed the lack of access to antiretroviral medications and other basic medical treatments for the majority of the patients living in the townships. More recently, I volunteered in a Trauma and Life Support Center performing jazz standards on the guitar to provide comfort and entertainment to patients and family members.
I am excited to join a community of like-minded peers from all healthcare disciplines, to learn from them, and to work alongside them to provide care to underserved patients now and throughout my career. In the future I plan to combine my research background with the skills that I develop as an Urban Service Track Scholar to investigate and improve the health outcomes of underserved populations.
