Lucy Schlink

UConn School of Dental Medicine

I was born in New London, Connecticut. I graduated from Ave Maria University with a double major in biochemistry and physics.

At Ave Maria University, I was a Mother Theresa Scholar. The Mother Theresa Program emphasizes compassion through service to underprivileged people. Through the program, I led a weekly nursing home volunteer group. I also volunteered as a student tutor and mentor in the neighboring town of Immokalee, Florida, which has a large migrant farmworker population. In my senior year, I organized a weeklong mission trip to help homeless women and children at the Missionaries of Charity in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Prior to joining the UConn School of Dental Medicine, I worked as a board-certified surgical neurophysiologist at hospitals throughout Connecticut and served as a board member on the Ledge Light Health District, representing Stonington.

I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve my community as a dental health provider; it is a privilege and a duty to share my gifts and to create lasting positive change. I will passionately strive to break the negative cycles facing low SES and MUP, which I believe can only be accomplished through working directly with the impacted youth. I joined The Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars Program to learn skills beyond those taught in a normal classroom setting, to most efficiently serve the needs of my local community.
