UConn School of Pharmacy

I was born in a small village in Pakistan and moved to the United States when I was one year old. I grew up in Lakewood, New Jersey, though I spent a few years of my childhood in Pakistan and my family moved around a lot. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy studies from UConn in May of 2021.
I have worked at CVS Pharmacy for the past four years. I also recently started working at Bridgeport Hospital, where I was able to shadow their ambulatory care pharmacist for a day. She works with the complex care management team to help patients in underserved community manage their chronic diseases, like diabetes and hypertension. I really enjoyed watching her face-to-face interactions with her patients and seeing the positive changes in their values over time. It was thrilling to hear from her patients how much of an impact she made on their lives.
I sought involvement in the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program because I want to learn the skills necessary to interact with and help underserved populations. I want to learn how to communicate clearly and how to help them overcome their health disparities through leveraging community resources. The UST/AS Program can help me learn these vital skills so that my future patients receive the best possible care. This will be a great hands-on experience for me before I begin my autonomous professional life, for there’s only so much one can learn in a classroom setting.
