UConn School of Social Work

I was born and raised in Orange, Connecticut. I have an undergraduate degree in Spanish from High Point University in North Carolina and a graduate degree in human rights from the University of Arizona.
While attending High Point University, I volunteered with a number of community partners including the YWCA in High Point, North Carolina, and Casa Azul in Greensboro, North Carolina. I also completed a year of service with AmeriCorps working at Greensboro Urban Ministry’s Weaver House.
I sought involvement in the Urban Service Track/AHEC Scholars (UST/AS) Program because my volunteer experiences have inculcated in me a deep-rooted passion for serving urban communities: I want to see these communities flourish and to help them overcome any barriers to that flourishing. The UST/AS Program will enable me to make a difference in Connecticut by developing my ability to network and collaborate with other health professionals, and by giving me the unique knowledge and skills I need to best support urban underserved communities. I believe the UST/AS Program, by acting beyond the classroom and mixing academics with social work, allows its students to develop skills and relationships that cannot develop in the classroom alone; I am looking forward to being a part of it.
