Lauren Sullivan
UConn School of Pharmacy, Class of 2017
I grew up in Swampscott, Massachusetts, a small town located twenty minutes outside of Boston. I currently work as a pharmacy intern at North Shore Medical Center Union Hospital in Lynn, Massachusetts. Previously, I worked at Aviv Centers for Living nursing home in the Adult Day Center. Working in these settings exposed me to many barriers underserved populations face everyday with healthcare. Witnessing these health disparities solidified my desire to become a pharmacist. I want to make a difference and have a positive impact on others.
At the University of Connecticut, I joined Student National Pharmaceutical Association because I was drawn to its mission of serving the underserved. By taking on the role of co-initiative chair I organized events geared towards raising awareness for stroke, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes. Having opportunities to go out into the community to volunteer and educate people has been very rewarding.
Urban Service Track will provide me with opportunities to continually help others. I am delighted to be part of a program that will enrich my learning as a pharmacy student and give me the opportunity to collaborate with other healthcare professionals. I am a firm believer in interprofessional education. My experiences on interdisciplinary terms in the past helped me grow tremendously. The more experiences we get as students the better healthcare providers we will make in the future, which is why I am excited to belong to Urban Service Track.
