The Center is also a training site for emergency medicine residents, doctor of pharmacy candidates and other health care providers such as pediatric residents, medical students, and pediatric emergency medicine residents.
Generally the poison center rotates between 25 and 35 students yearly. Students have the opportunity to learn about toxicology, managing poison exposures and patient care. Topics may include toxic alcohols, acetaminophen, envenomations, heavy metals, drugs of abuse, environmental toxins, or pesticides among others. Clinical student rotators engage in a variety of learning modalities including lectures, discussion, journal club, rounds, SIM lab, case review, and assisting with poison center calls.
