Genetic Kidney Disease
The Nephrology team at UConn Health offers comprehensive care to patients with genetic kidney disease including polycystic kidney disease and Fabry’s disease.
Polycystic kidney disease is an inherited disorder that causes cysts to develop in the kidneys. Sometimes cysts also grow in different parts of the body. This disease can cause pain in the back or side, high blood pressure, kidney stones, kidney infections, and kidney failure. Treatment of polycystic kidney disease addresses the debilitating symptoms.
Fabry’s disease is a rare genetic disorder that causes a class of lipids known as sphingolipids to build up on tissue in the body. This buildup can affect several organs in the body and can eventually lead to kidney failure. Treatment for Fabry’s disease addresses this buildup.
